BIOGRAPHY
James Matthew Seven is a Los Angeles–based producer, songwriter, guitarist, DJ, and lifelong record collector whose work moves fluidly across punk, hardcore, rock n roll, disco, soul, psychedelia, and beyond. Known for his adaptability and instinctive musicality, Seven brings a rare blend of authenticity, depth, and genre literacy to every project he undertakes.
Born in Toronto, Canada, Seven’s career began in the underground punk and hardcore scenes. At just 16, he co-founded the influential hardcore band No Warning, quickly becoming a defining force in the early 2000’s movement. The band’s 2002 release Ill Blood (Bridge 9 Records) is widely regarded as a genre classic, followed by extensive international touring alongside acts such as Cro-Mags, Agnostic Front, Madball, Hatebreed, and American Nightmare.
As No Warning’s profile expanded, the band signed to Warner Bros./Machine Shop Records, releasing Suffer Survive in 2004. During this period, Seven recorded at legendary studios including Sound City and Sunset Sound and toured globally with major artists such as Linkin Park, Korn, Snoop Dogg, and Ghostface Killah. These experiences provided a foundation in high-level songwriting, production, and large-scale touring that continues to inform his work today.
Following the band’s initial hiatus, Seven explored new creative directions, forming the garage-punk project Marvelous Darlings before relocating to Los Angeles. There, his musical perspective broadened through collaborations in hip-hop, soul, and funk, working with artists and producers affiliated with the Gap Band, Bone Thugs and Harmony and Aftermath Entertainment.
After returning to Toronto in 2014, Seven fully embraced his role as a producer and songwriter, collaborating across genres and helping artists refine their sonic identity. No Warning reunited in 2015 to sold-out shows worldwide and released Torture Culture in 2017, introducing the band to a new generation of fans.
Today, James Matthew Seven brings together underground credibility, major-label experience, and creative versatility. Managed by Chris Taylor (Hall of Fame Artists), his recent work includes contributions to Too Slow to Disco: Sunset Manifesto, a 7” release on Beijinho do Brasil Records, production on Guv’s upcoming 2026 LP Warmer Than Gold, and new music with his duo project Night Mover alongside acclaimed DJ and film producer Alix Brown.
